Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between liquid paint and powder coating for my enclosure?
Whether you need painted metal enclosures, or powder coated, KMI has a solution for you. Both forms of industrial coatings have benefits for product protection.

Painting vs Powder Coating:
Powder coating is typically a cleaner, more environmentally friendly, and durable coating than paint. However, powder coating is not cost-effective for every situation. If you have a standard color that you would like your enclosure, then powder coating may be the way to go. However, if you have a custom color that will not be repeated often or is a one-time use, paint would be best for you. The reason for this is that powder colors are produced in batches unique to your color and the setup can be more expensive than paint. Powders can not simply be mixed together to create your desired color. If you have a custom color that is a part of your product that will be repeated, we can have that color ordered in quantity and you can gain from the added protection and efficiency of powder coating. If your product is a one time only run, or very low quantity paint may be your best bet.

KMI also offers marine-duty powder coating and painting that give added protection to your products that will be exposed to harsh or severe-duty environments such as salt spray or off-shore applications.
